Julian Tavarez: Sox Ace in the Hole?

By Stephanie

Well well well. Despite Schilling’s precautionary trip to the DL, it looks like our pitching staff is still pretty deep (and honestly I would rather have Schilling not pitch for 15 days, rather than pitch the way he has his last two outings). Tavarez was stellar last night. He pitched a 7-inning shutout, Piniero came in for a scoreless eigth inning with two strikeouts, and then Timlin came in and saved himself from his last two outings with a scoreless ninth.  Who would have thought:  Tavarez, Piniero, and Timlin?

Overall, the Sox did it all last night:  Pitching, hitting, and defense.  And I have to say, Tavarez is really growing on me.  I like his enthusiasm.  I like the way he has pitched this season.

PS:  Coco Crisp, 2-5 with another homer?  He’s already increased his season HR production by like 300% in the last three games.   (Of course, he had 1 HR coming into the Atlanta series, but whatever.)
