Ok, I get it: the Yankees have been winning games (and high-scoring games at that). But can we step back and get some perspective? The NY media is making it sound like the Yankees have just swept the toughest team in baseball by a million runs to zero. It is the DEVIL RAYS and the ROYALS, people. Now, I understand that the Royals put a whoop-ass performance on us several weeks ago, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s the Royals. If the Yankees can do what they are doing now from August 16th – 27th, when they have 4 Detroit games, then 3 Anaheim, then 4 Detroit, I will be the first one to concede that the Yankees offense has exploded. Don’t get me wrong: they Yankees are in a lot better position than they were — 6.5 games back, getting some of their pitching back, Giambi coming back, and quiet bats starting to hit — but they also aren’t playing very good teams right now. Luckily, the Sox schedule eases up while the Yanks schedule only gets harder. Should be a good time for us to make up some ground in our AL East lead again.
On a different note, anyone who watched the last two Sox-Indians games were given a real show. The pitching for both teams during both games was absolutely fantastic. They split, each getting a 1-0 victory, which is pretty much unheard of (and I think hasn’t happened back-to-back with two teams since the 70s).
It is a shame that the Sox lost, but no one can be disappointed in Beckett’s performance. He went 8 strong innings, and only allowed one run. He looked great, and gives Sox fans great hope for the rest of the season. We won’t be facing Sabathia and Carmona every day, right? The games were a great playoff preview, no?
Also, who else thinks that the Indians TV announcers are the second worst in baseball (the first, of course, being Yankees broadcasters)? I couldn’t watch the game on NESN, so I ended up watching the Cleveland broadcast, and I felt like I was sitting in the bleachers at the Jake. These accouncers were hard-core rooting for the Indians! Now, I know that most broadcasters are somewhat biased, but these guys were actually hooting and hollering and acting like it was Game 7 of the World Series. Terrible.
Onward, Kason Gabbard! Earn thy spot in the Red Sox rotation!

IMO all annoucers suck except the Miami Heat NBA announcers. I also like the Atlanta Hawks announcers. I can’t stand Remy at all and he is the announcer of my team. That women that does the Yankees game is horrible.
The Yankees are hitting against bad pitching but as we have seen in the past hitting doesn’t win titles. Pitching does.
